New Year, New Beginning
What are your new goals, dreams, or aspirations? What do you hope for?
GOAL: Write a poem that communicates your New Year’s Resolution. How will you make your year better? How have you matured so far this year?
What’s your resolution?
Try harder? Be nicer? Listen to your parents? Try to do better in school? Pay attention to pets? Save money for the year? Share something with family or friends? Learn a hobby? Eat healthier?
The Writers Club is looking for poems from everyone! We want you to try your best to achieve your goals this year. Let us know your goals in a poem!
The Earle B. Wood Writer's Club would like to get the entire school writing! 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students can join the club and attend bi-monthly meetings, or just submit work. We will gladly accept all poems and short stories! You can submit your work in the cafeteria or Room 256. Get writing!

Thanks to the hard work of Earle B. Wood's staff and students, the 2008 - 2009 Literary Magazine is here! The magazine will be passed out during exam week to every student in the school.

"I Am" poems
The color blue is what I am
Different shades, different moods
From dark to light, mysterious to typical
Unpredictable, as I am,
no one knows what to expect.
Loved by many,
Hated by some,
I am evrywhere,
whether you like it or not.

I am a deep blue ocean
alone and just as blue,
yet so wide with no sadness.
Friends and more
long chats at school
Family who loved me
since the day I was born.
Alone most of the time-
though I knew I always have
friends and family here.
All my friendships had fights,
but we all knew the friendships was...
unbreakable.
The silent songs of a violin player
is often heard from me.
I may not be the best,
but...
I try everytime.
I am the deep blue ocean
the most joyful one...
I bring joy to all
the sea creatures both
great and small.

I touch.
I listen.
I talk.
I walk.
I run.
I ask.
I sleep.
I question.
What is so important about
these things I do?
Why do I do
these things I do?
Who can answer my call?
Who can see me
Who can see me for who I am
I look up at
the big blue sky
not knowing
how to pass the time.
What is really up there?
I wonder very much
What! What! What!
I cannot tell
where I am.
All I see
is darkness.
It surrounds me.
I hear the birds chirp,
I hear the wind blow,
I hear my pacing steps
as they run down the road.
I stop to drink
from my water bottle-
I ask myself,
Where am I-
North? South?
West? East?
I cannot tell how long its been
since that turn around the bend.
There are no trees
There are no lakes
The ocean whittles away
as I look.
I go to sleep
that empty night
not knowing
where I must go.
My head is full
though it feels empty-
I cannot tell
which is right.
I wake in the middle of the night
I know I must leave
For this place is not for me!
